Assembling your Moving Box
To effectively put together a moving box, follow the top tips brought to you by our expert team here at All Around Moving.
- Gather the box and some strong, heavy duty tape.
- Begin folding your box into a cube shape.
- Even if the flaps on the box fold into one another, tape them securely to ensure the bottom won’t fall through when items are placed in the box.
Packing your Moving Box
Once your box has been assembled, it’s time to start packing.
- Start off by grouping items of similar size and weight together.
- Use either bubble wrap or the Styrofoam chips to layer the base of the box.
- Wrap the heaviest items with bubble wrap or paper and place them in the bottom of the box. (Always place heavier items at the bottom of moving boxes).
- Wrap any lighter items with bubble wrap or paper and separate them from items in the bottom of the box with bubble wrap or a cushioned layer.
- Before sealing your box, cushion the entire package using Styrofoam chips or crumpled paper. Stuff these firmly into unfilled spaces to prevent your items shifting and damaging your goods.
- Close the box and seal it with sturdy packing tape.
- Label the box with its contents and destination room.
Your filled box should not weigh more than 30 pounds (give or take a few pounds). You should be able to lift the box with ease. Boxes that aren’t packed correctly may collapse during transit. Boxes that are over packed can rupture and collapse other boxes causing your items to become damaged.
