The way that we treat our environment and conduct our lives has a huge impact on not only our futures, but those of our children and future generations. While on a day to day basis you may try your best to ensure that you are as ‘green’ as possible, there are a few steps that you must take to conduct a ‘green’ move. Read the following top tips from All Around Moving to discover how to keep the environment happy when moving home.
Use Recycled Boxes to Pack
Try and source as many second hand and used boxes as possible. Good places to ask for them are at supermarkets, malls and shops. Why not ask friends and family if they have any recycled boxes you can use to pack your belongings in?
Interestingly, there are a couple of businesses out there that specialize in providing recycled or misprinted boxes that can’t be used for sale. You can either buy these recycled boxes on their own, or as part of moving kits, including tape and a marker. Not only are recycled boxes better for the environment, but they’re also more cost effective than brand new boxes.
Recycle your Resources
Once you’re done with your moving supplies, recycle them. Offer them to any friends or family members that are moving. Otherwise, you could advertise them online or on social media. If you can’t find anyone to take them, at least recycle them at a recycling center instead of throwing them in the trash.
Make as Little Journeys as Possible
If moving with a ‘green’ moving company, you should consider also packing up your car to reduce the number of van runs between your new and old home.
Reduce or Reuse
If you are a bit of a hoarder and have lots of junk in your home, the best thing to do would be to get rid of it. You can make some cash by selling your unwanted items, or you can recycle, or give to charity. If you don’t want to get rid of some of your belongings, you should be reusing them. Why not keep items of furniture for projects at your new home? For example, you could turn old crates into a coffee table, or that unneeded crib into a funky desk.
